What are these profoundly powerful techniques David administers in his private practice?
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a syntheses of cognitive and behavioural psychology which encompasses through using certain techniques - how a person has acquired their unique behaviour patterns which they can't seem to let go of at a deeper level.
NLP steps into the mind and reprograms those old negative behavioural patterns, it is about using learning strategies that are very powerful. Its founders came across NLP through the studies of three different individuals who were at the top of their field in therapy - through studying their individual techniques, NLP was born. It allows us to look at how we uniquely think, process and file information at a deep level.
When we pay close attention to how we use our brains for a change, we are able to make a permanent change based on how we code our experience by way of perception, intension and belief.
Clinical Hypnosis is a trance like state and everyone has the ability to enter trance. Everyday people slip into a natural trance sate when they become absorbed in television, a book, computers or even driving. Hypnosis works by lulling you into a state of relaxation that then gives access to the subconscious mind - thereby giving access and power to use your brain's own bio-computer.
In hypnosis there is absolutely no question of being controlled or manipulated. A person in hypnosis is often referred to as Conscious Hypnosis and is not asleep - they are often more aware of what is taking place than usual and their senses function more efficiently than normal. Nobody could possibly be made to do anything they did not want to do.
People who say or think that "nobody could get me under" or "I wouldn't want anybody controlling my mind", are really demonstrating that they have a total misconception of what hypnosis really is. The state of hypnosis is a totally natural phenomenon - it is most pleasant and particularly relaxing and a person can converse quite easily whilst within the state. It is inconceivable that any harm could befall them.
Indeed the centuries old technique of hypnosis is being used increasingly as an adjunct to orthodox medicine where it is providing a valuable alternative to drugs, nicotine patches and the like.
A good definition of hypnosis: "A state of relaxation and concentration at one with a state of heightened awareness".
